As she unsticks her wings
she knows not all she’s got
confined, contained
safe, though tainted
her past lingers in her mind
her limbs, legs and tiny toes
freely climbing bark
walking anywhere she wanted in the park
could she?
perhaps the defining question is … will she?
wriggling her head through
fresh air touches her face
this is familiar, I can do this
it’s just … the rest of me
not there
as if I disappeared
she stills
she grieves
being remade is hard
gifted wings of intricate design
dare I
shine
this way?
flying, they say?
as she emerges
her eyes look not back
seeing now
how, she wonders
then she inhales
she Surrenders,
Soars forevermore

Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead they will live for Christ who died and was raised for them.
So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view.
How differently we know Him now!
That means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person; the old life is gone, a new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:14-17 NLT).

What amazing hope that a plain caterpillar hunkers down for a time and is completely transformed.
And so it is with us and our Lord.
We may have to step away from things to allow His healing, transformative power to take hold.
In the past, depression would cause me to retreat. Then I would seek and find Him in my self-pity.
Now I can sense when God wants me to spend more time with Him, not yapping endlessly about my woes but rather listen for His direction, His wisdom, His next step planned for my life.
May we all grow our hope in Him this given day. May those who slacked on praying pick up their Bibles and cry out to Him. May marriages gone dry be refreshed by His living water. May those stuck in fear, worry or shame be freed in the name of Jesus!
Freedom is already bought and paid for.
Learning to walk in it, just as the butterfly needs to access higher ground in flight, is the hard part.
When we stay in chains, no matter what the content, the Lord’s blessing, mercy, peace, joy cannot reach your heart in full.
I pray you surrender your pain, your sorrow, your fear, your worry, your unforgiveness, your critical nature, your sins … all things … I pray you surrender them now to Our Lord. When you are finished praying, I wish I could see His freedom spring in your step 🙂

Oh Bettie, here we can praise Him again and again. His timing so perfectly lined up our lives at the beginning of time. If you receive any photos of your grandson’s butterflies, will you please share? I find each one so amazingly beautiful. Love and prayers for you today, Julie
