Resist the devil and he will flee
Just like that dog behind the fence who barked wildly at me
I merely walked by
Being sure not to look him in the eye
After a distance
The animal ceased his scary business
Resist the devil and he will flee
The devil is death no matter what his lies seem
Submit to the Lord
He is light. He is life.
On my walk, the sky was a depressing gray
He put a red bird in a bush who stayed
As I got my phone
To document that I was not alone
Closer to home, there above the neighbor’s house
Were a couple pair of doves all about
God’s given gifts
Watching, bonding, you might not think birds listen
For all we know
Those four birds could be angels sent low
The Word is clear
Angels surround those who rightfully fear
The Only Holy One
Who teaches us how to battle so we glorify Him in the race of faith we run
~
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
~
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and He delivers them (Psalm 34:7).

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and teh sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Welcome! God gave me this poem on my walk this morning. There really was a fierce sounding dog behind a fence that barked wildly at me as I walked by. I opted not to get his photo. The red bird is real! I had to look twice, but I saw it move its head. I was in awe, after I peeked into the bush to see this lovely creature, that it stayed. Miss Red didn’t fly away as most birds do while I am fumbling to get my camera ready.
May His truth and message in this poem sink deep into your souls. You are never alone. You always have God and His angels on your side to help you stand up to those who want to tear you down. Now, sometimes His wisdom is to ignore, just walk away from the enemy. Other times, Holy Spirit gives us words to speak. Either way, we are to resist the devil and submit all our ways to God.
Have a blessed rest of your Sunday.
In Christ,
Julie

Thank you for these sweet words and images, Julie. Just a few days ago I flipped open my Mom’s old art journal to her sketch of a beautiful redbird from a time that she was staying with us. She’s been in Heaven 10 years now, but I know she’s part of the great cloud of witnesses. Our Lord wants us to know that He has not left us alone!

Bettie I am in forever awe of His timing and orchestration. Thank you so much for sharing with me. You flipping open your journal to find a hand-drawn (by your mom) red bird encourages my heart just as He encouraged my heart when I peeled inside that bush to see if this red bird was real. It was so still, I wasnt sure. We love You, Jesus.
