Despair

despair

Breathing
Seething
His words bite
Knock me down
I forgot how to fight
Lord, I need You

sadbride

Cornered
He, a coroner
Spat
Just before he stamped
Decay onto my heart
Lord, I need You

grapepress

Like grapes in a press
I am undressed
The pressure immense
My muscles tense
Hives do not relent
Lord, I need You

surrounded

When there is no way out
When I am surrounded by a cloud
Of suffering
Still Your Word stands
I cannot be destroyed by a man
Praise the sacred ground of the Lord!

righthand

For that is where I am
In Your mighty righteous right hand
Safe, held, loved
Each salty tear from my bloodshot eyes
Stored in heaven’s bottle
All my loss, a record

angelsonhigh

For whom shall I fear?
I trust You are near
Man, like Samson, thinks himself strong
Has he not heard angel song?
Holy, Holy, Holy
Are You, Lord

lionlamb

My Redeemer lives
In every crevice
Of my beaten soul
He whispers life
His breath has power as does His sight
He, who reigns … sees me, keeps me, frees me

Hallelujah, glory to God!

In God, whose word I praise,

in the Lord, whose word I praise-

in God I trust and am not afraid.

What can man do to me?

I am under vows to you, my God;

I will present my thank offerings to You.

For You have delivered me from death

and my feet from stumbling,

that I may walk before God

in the light of life (Psalm 56: 10-13).

This poem was born out of prayer for a person in the family of God. If you pray, would you take a minute to lift this situation to the Lord, who sees, who keeps, who frees?

Despair can move in on those with depression swiftly. It is hard to look up when despair moves in, hope seems far. His truth remains. He is near. He knows your heart. He heals and frees. I pray you reach out to Jesus and to people if you are in despair.
