Cars whizz by
On the fly
To where?
Is their home here?
What’s the rush?
Says the drying rose bush
Squirrels, though, they understand
The clawing of hands
For acorns
If their mouths are empty, it might as well be thorns
Often I see
An elderly lady
Stepping intently
Holding the leash gently
If she stops to adjust
Her companion just
Takes a seat
Shows patience without any bribe or treat
The beauty between the two,
Neither walks ahead or through
Without the other
Hearts tethered
This worn woman
And her pawfect best friend

Therefore do not let what you know is good be spoken of as evil. For the kingdom of God is not matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval (Romans 14:16-18).
