A Fallen Feather

squirrel

A click, a caw
Squirrel nails sound like claws
Clinging to bark
Their home base in the dark

sparrows
Birds, many
Stir, darting plenty
Flurry of wings
Sing their freedom melody

skyopens

Sky opens its arms
Welcoming all
Then … the feather
Lightly wafting

feather

Tenderly sailing
Edges unfussed
Its owner undressed
Missing a thread
Of the coat
A cold winter hope

I wonder does the bird know?
Does he or she watch it fall?
Feeling a hole,
Poverty of soul?

Or is it a gift
To those
Curious below?
Those who wish a touch of God
His hand to hold,
A glimpse of bold morning glory

Could the delicate feather belong to an angel?
Whose body is host not human?

angellights
As feathers descend
We may not understand
Let’s wide our eyes
Purely seek
His presence
In all life’s streaks

He will cover you with His feathers,

and under His wings you will find refuge;

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart (Psalm 91:4)

  1. Oh, such beautiful words Julie. I love this:
    “Or is it a gift
    To those
    Curious below?
Those who wish a touch of God
    His hand to hold,
A glimpse of bold morning glory”
May we keep our eyes open to see those glimpses of how He does cover us with His feathers, watching over us so closely!
